From Morning Live
Please note, although this is general views, some of the facts, may apply to UK only.
Check the letters you received from suppliers for your bills, let them know, you are in financial difficulty and how/why. They can't help you, if they don't know.
They will be able to guide and help you.
Look at your bills/debts.
Which ones are most important, to pay first.
Make a priority list of the most important ones to pay.
Ones that will have serious consequences if you don't.
These could include the following:
Rent arrears
Mortgage
Gas and electricity
Council tax
Other debts
Water bill – it won't be cut off.
Credit cards. If you are paying high interest on your credit card, you can transfer it all, to a no interest credit card, to save you money.
When it gets serious.
If:
You are getting letters from their solicitor over court proceedings, engage in the process, offer a payment plan.
3 actions to do
Don't do nothing.
Don't defend what you owe.
If you can't afford to pay the debt, tell them.
You can fill in an admission form, showing your weekly incomings and outgoings.
Engage with the process.
I hope this helps.
