Help, my energy price is going up.

 Hello

Yesterday we all heard, that our energy prices are going up, as often as I am able to, I watch the Martin Lewis Money show, on ITV1 on Thursday evening, at 8.30pm.

You can watch the program at your leisure in ITV player.

So yesterday, I sat with my pen and paper, ready to make notes.

He interviewed the chancellor, and gave out lots of great information, he did not hold back.

Now the information, that was given was general, not necessarily for disabled people, but that includes us.

It does involve taking action, so if you are not well enough, feel free to ask someone to help you do this.

1. Improving your energy efficiency,

If you are on benefits, and most of us are, you can simply contact your  local council, or supplier or both, and explain your  situation, they will put you onto someone, who will add insulation to your home, for free, and possibly a better heating system, all you need to do, is show them your benefit letters.

It is done over a few weeks, but will make your home more energy efficient,  saving you money.

2. Warm Home Discount

The government runs a scheme, for people on means tested benefits, but they are expanding the scheme to others too, the money goes straight to the supplier, and saves money off your gas and electric bill.

You can contact your supplier, to find out more.

3.£200 bill credit.

The government is going to credit £200 to your gas and electric bill in October of this year, this is interest free, and you will have to pay back £40 a year over 5 years.

4. Winter fuel payment

This is paid to OAP's

5. Council tax help

In April of this year, the government is going to pay £150 towards your council tax, if you are in band

A -D in England, this will mean that you don't have to pay that money, so have more money in your pocket for your gas and electric bill.

6. Discretionary fund

If you don't fit any of these categories, the government is going to put $144 million to the local councils, all we have to do is ask for it!

I hope this information helps you, feel free to share it with anyone, that would benefit from it.

Miriam
